Naples FL Mold Remediation connects Naples and Collier County homeowners with Florida-licensed mold assessors and remediators. We don't do the work ourselves. You describe the problem once, and we help you line up quotes from licensed local pros so you can compare scopes and prices side by side.
That matters because mold removal in Florida is regulated. Before you sign anything, ask any company for its Florida license number and verify it at MyFloridaLicense.com. A legitimate remediator will hand it over without hesitation.

When does Florida require a licensed mold remediator?
Florida Statutes s. 468.8411(5) defines mold remediation as "the removal, cleaning, sanitizing, demolition, or other treatment, including preventive activities, of mold or mold-contaminated matter of greater than 10 square feet that was not purposely grown at that location." Anyone who performs or offers to perform that work needs a state license. The same section adds that remediation "may not be work that requires a license under chapter 489 unless performed by a person who is licensed under that chapter," which is why rebuilding walls, plumbing or AC work after a tear-out may involve a separately licensed contractor.
For smaller spots, EPA's mold guide says: "If the moldy area is less than about 10 square feet" (roughly a 3 ft by 3 ft patch), homeowners can usually handle the job themselves. Anything larger, anything that keeps coming back, or anything hidden inside walls, ceilings or ductwork is where a licensed remediator comes in.
Florida also separates the two roles. Under s. 468.8419, a mold assessor may not remediate a structure it assessed within the last 12 months, and a mirror rule applies to remediators, with an exception for Division I certified contractors under the statute. In practice the assessor and the remediator are typically separate companies. See our mold inspection & testing page for the assessment side.

Why mold comes back in Naples homes
EPA's mold guide is blunt: "If you clean up the mold, but don't fix the water problem, then, most likely, the mold problem will come back." In Naples the water problem is often humidity as much as a leak. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for Naples Municipal Airport show about 49.55 inches of rain a year, with June through September bringing roughly two-thirds of it. Our own averages of NOAA hourly observations for 2015–2024 show the dew point at or above 70°F in about 93–99% of hours from June to September.
Common moisture sources in Collier County homes include:
- Roof, window and slider leaks during summer storms
- AC drain lines, drain pans and sweating ducts (see AC & HVAC mold)
- Plumbing leaks under sinks and behind dishwashers and toilets
- Homes and condos closed up for the off-season (see seasonal home mold)
- Storm surge and flood water that soaked drywall and insulation (see hurricane & storm-surge mold)
- Attics with roof leaks or poor ventilation
What typically happens during mold remediation
Every job is scoped by the pros on site. This is the general pattern, and our step-by-step process page goes deeper.
Independent assessment
A licensed mold assessor typically finds the extent of growth and the moisture source and writes a remediation protocol. EPA notes that in most cases, if visible mold growth is present, sampling is unnecessary.
Containment
Crews typically seal the work area with plastic sheeting and a zipper door and run air scrubbers so spores and dust stay out of the rest of the home.
Removal and cleaning
Porous materials with growth, such as drywall, insulation and carpet pad, are usually cut out and bagged. Hard surfaces are cleaned and HEPA-vacuumed.
Drying and source repair
Dehumidifiers and fans bring materials back to normal moisture, and the leak, drain or humidity problem gets fixed so the mold does not return.
Clearance and rebuild
Many homeowners have the area re-checked before walls are closed. Rebuild work may need a permit and a chapter 489 contractor.
Permits for tear-out and rebuild in Collier County
Collier County's post-hurricane guidance says that "for the clean up and removal of wet drywall, cabinets, carpeting, and baseboards, permits will not be required," but "a building permit is required for all repair, replacement and rebuild work." It also says "all commercial and multi-family buildings will require a permit for any work performed," which covers condos. Separately, the county exempts non-fire drywall repair that does not exceed two sheets (64 sq ft).
From July 1, 2026, Collier also exempts certain qualifying work under $7,500 by written request, but only for single-family detached homes outside a flood hazard area, with no structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or gas work. The City of Naples has its own Building Department, so city addresses should check with the city. Our post on permits for replacing moldy drywall walks through it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I remove mold myself in Naples?
For small spots, yes. EPA's mold guide says that if the moldy area is less than about 10 square feet, roughly a 3 ft by 3 ft patch, homeowners can usually handle it. Florida's licensing rules for remediation apply to work on more than 10 square feet. If the growth is larger, hidden in walls or keeps returning, get quotes from a Florida-licensed remediator.
How do I check that a mold remediator is licensed?
Ask the company for the Florida license number of the person who will be responsible for the work, then verify it at MyFloridaLicense.com. Florida licenses individuals rather than businesses for mold services, so look up the person by name or number. If rebuild work is involved, ask whether a chapter 489 contractor will handle that part. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can the same company test for mold and remove it?
Florida Statutes s. 468.8419 bars a mold assessor from remediating a structure it assessed within the last 12 months, and a mirror rule in the same section applies to remediators. Division I certified contractors are an exception under the statute. As a result, the assessor and remediator are typically separate companies. This is general information, not legal advice.
How long does mold remediation take?
It depends on the size of the affected area, how much material has to be removed and how long drying takes. A single bathroom wall is a very different job from a storm-flooded first floor. The licensed remediator who scopes the job on site can give you a timeline, and rebuild work afterward may add time if a permit is needed.
Do I need a permit for mold removal in Collier County?
Collier County says removing wet drywall, cabinets, carpeting and baseboards after a storm needs no permit, but repair, replacement and rebuild work does, and any work in multi-family buildings needs one. Drywall repair up to two sheets (64 sq ft) that is not fire-related is exempt. City of Naples addresses should check with the city Building Department.
